Rothrock Trail Alliance (RTA) is pleased to announce a significant milestone in expanding multi-use trails in Rothrock State Forest. To continue our efforts to enhance trail infrastructure, we have officially selected a contractor for the Hubler Gap / Whipple Dam Phase 2 project.

Contract Award and Details

Appalachian Dirt, a West Virginia-based trail design and construction company, has been awarded the contract to construct Phase 2 trails. The contract, valued at $440,000, was the most competitive bid that met the project timeline and was lower than other bids, with the highest bid exceeding one million dollars.

This development marks a significant step forward in RTA's mission to expand and improve trail infrastructure in Rothrock State Forest. The new trails will contribute to the broader initiative of creating approximately 53 miles of new sustainable trails across the forest, enhancing recreational opportunities for hikers, bikers, and equestrian riders.

Project Timeline and Scope

  • Start Date: Construction is expected to begin in June 2025

  • Completion: Anticipated by the end of 2025, weather permitting

  • Workforce: Two crews will be deployed to ensure efficient progress

Looking Ahead

With Phase 2 set to begin, RTA is well-positioned to complete this crucial stage of trail expansion. In total, 19 miles of new trails will be established at the conclusion of Phase 2. We extend our gratitude to our community of supporters, partners, and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for their continued backing of this project.
